1st XI Averages 2008

Highlights

The highlights of the 2008 season saw M Atkinson Jnr take the batting prize with consistently impressive batting displays, topped off with a high score of 76 during a successful partnership with M Atkinson Snr in a victory over Torrisholme.

The bowling prize was snaffled up by D Aldred who fought off injury to prove again what a great bowler he is. All of this summed up in figures of 25 wickets at just 12.64. Closely followed by M.Wiggans who took an inspiring 41 wickets.

The fielding trophy was clinched by M Atkinson Jnr, who caught 8 catches in total. When that ball goes up into that cloudy grey summer sky there is no one you want underneath more than him.

2nd XI Averages 2008

Highlights

Well 2008 was a tough season for the 2nd XI and it went right to the wire in one of the closest finishes imaginable, all in all though class proved to be the dominant factor in keeping us afloat. With key performances from a number of players, none more so than C.Bass.

Other highlights saw Phil Willacy hit a blistering 105 away against Penwortham in a knock that saw him smash 7 6’s and 7 4’s. Phil could be a key component to the side in 2009 after only making a handful of appearances last season.

Figures of 6-23 saw the Lipsalve Swing King Graham Green rip apart Springfields in an impressive spell that took the wind well and truly out of the visitors’ sails. Lets hope he can keep up the impressive bowling on a more regular basis this season, I’m sure he will be itching to grab that new ball.

It was a weekend to remember for Daniel Holding when he took a 6 for and 5 for respectively in one single weekend. Although not quite Michael Holding he certainly left the opposition chasing their tails.

The future looks bright at the club with a number of juniors getting a game in the 2nd XI last season, most of those appearances coming from John O’loughlin who showed plenty of bottle in his batting and fielding, taking an impressive catch in the process. Let’s see some more of those juniors wanting to make the step up in the forth coming season.
