There's a certain
predictability about second team cricket - after a good win on the first
day it was perhaps inevitable that next week we'd struggle to get a side
together. Anyway, we managed to field a ten person team which saw debuts
for Joe Bolton (9) and George Harris (12). Col Smith was introduced to Joe
and informed that, not only had he (Colin) played with Joe's Dad Gary, he'd
also played with his Grandad, Allan. "Oh bugger" said Col who
then collapsed into his bathchair so we could wheel him out to stand at
first slip. Walton got off to a good start and got to 68 without loss before
Col took up bowling his little dobbers and removed both openers. He continued
to take two more and Walton finished on 140-6.
Batting was never easy against the accuracy of Gavin Turner and runs
were hard to come by, except for Col who obviously had something to prove
to the younger generation and got 34. At the end, the three young lads
battled hard to keep the skipper company for seven overs without adding
much to the total. 75 all out. As Col said "Oh bugger". |
